Tony Cascarino has told Sky Sports News HQ that Kevin De Bruyne is the best two-footed player in Europe - and he cannot understand how Chelsea ever let him go.
De Bruyne moved from Genk to Stamford Bridge in a £6.7m deal in 2012 but he made just two league starts before being sold to Wolfsburg in 2014.
He went on to score 16 goals and made 27 assists as Wolfsburg finished runners-up to Bayern Munich, and he was named the 2015 Footballer of the Year in Germany.
That form prompted Manchester City to spend £55m to bring the Belgium international back to the Premier League last summer and he fired the club through to the Champions League semi-finals with the decisive goal against Paris Saint-Germain.
"I don't think there is any debate as to whether he is key to them" Cascarino told Sky Sports News HQ. "What we have seen is a player who is so two-footed, he has the ability to go either way; left foot, right foot.
"I still can't get it in my head, and maybe that's because I'm an ex-Chelsea player, but I can't understand how Chelsea let him go.
"Because when you have him at a football club, when he is in training every day, you know how gifted and talented they are - and Chelsea have let him go.
"Now he's ended up back at City and he has become fundamental to what they have achieved this year. For me I just look at him and ask is there a better two-footed player in Europe, I don't think so."
