Hungary’s farm minister meets U.S. food importer
Hungary’s Agriculture Minister Sándor Fazekas met George Gellert, the head of Atalanta Corporation, the largest privately held food importer in the United States, in New York yesterday, Hungarian news agency MTI reported this morning.
The company showed strong interest in premium food products from Hungary, including mangalitsa pork and Hungarian grey cattle as well as organic products and other foods unique to the country, the minister said, according to MTI.
Fazekas and U.S. Under Secretary of Agriculture for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services Michael Scuse held talks in Washington yesterday, to discuss the crisis in the dairy sector, veterinary issues, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the export of Hungarian farm products to American markets.
The minister is traveling to Montreal and Toronto today, according to reports.
