Stars shine in match

ROUND 11 of the 2015-’16 ABC Motsepe League season saw the Warrenton side, Young Stars, overcome the Kuruman Kicks by 3-1 in an entertaining match.

This match was played at the Warrenton High School Stadium on Saturday (09/04) afternoon.

Stars came to this match after having defeated the Kimberley-based side Young Pirates by 5-0 a forthnight ago at the same venue.

The hosts looked like a more determined side in the opening stages of the match.

They tried to put more numbers to the front as they were looking for an early goal.

They were finally rewarded when Thabang Plata received a neat pass from Ricardo Versuur.

The nervous Plata made no mistake when he scored Stars’ first goal.

The wounded Kicks came guns blazing looking for an equa-liser, but Stars keeper, Masilo Moreki, made a string of saves to put the home side in the match.

The visitors continued to push forward but not many opportunities could come in the first stanza of the game.

Stars stood firm at the back to protect their lead.

A few minutes into the second half, the ever hardworking Kicks right winger, Slip Ncamile, opened a scoring account for his team to make the score 1-1.

The hosts doubled their advantage through Joseph Motshabi in the 68th mi-nute.

The team from Batlharos piled more pressure with central midfilder, Thabiso Mhlanga, who was all over the pitch.

Mlanga was tackling and taking shots at goals. However, his efforts came to nothing as Njabulo Gama scored Young Stars’ third goal.

Since teams like William Pescod and Colville United on the top log dropped points, this win gives Stars the opportunity to close the gap.

Spectators can look forward to more action.
