Daltonganj: Chhota Vikas alias Chashma Yadav, a senior cadre of Bihar-Jharkhand North Chhattisgarh special area committee of CPI (Maoist), surrendered in Latehar on Tuesday. Vikas had a Rs 25-lakh reward on his head. "Yadav was the second-most powerful man in the CPI (Maoist) after Arvindji, whose contingent comprised 100 to 150 cadres. It has dwindled to around 30-40 now.

A majority of the cadres hail from Bihar,'' Palamu DIG (police) Saket Kumar Singh. Yadav surrendered before Singh and Latehar SP Anoop Birtharey. Yadav hails from village Bhiterdih. He has been a Maoist since 1996 and said he left the rebel group because exploitation was rampant in the outfit. Singh said Yadav has six cases each pending against him in Latehar and Palamu district as well as in Lohardaga. Police had also slapped Pota on Yadav in 2001.
