Unaccounted cash seized

The flying squad personnel attached to three Assembly constituencies of Veerapandi, Salem West and Yercaud seized Rs. 14.62 lakh being transported in vehicles without proper documents on Tuesday.

The flying squad of Veerapandi constituency, led by Sundararajan, was conducting surprise check near the Salem Steel Plant on Tuesday, when they intercepted a car.

The occupants of the car were found to be carrying Rs. 11 lakh. Since they did not produce any relevant document, the money was seized and handed over to Moorthy, Returning Officer of Veerapandi constituency. He later handed over the money to the district treasury.

The flying squad of Salem West constituency intercepted a two-wheeler at Sivathapuram and seized Rs. 2.25 lakh. The money was handed over R. Ravikumar, Returning Officer.

The officials of the Yercaud constituency seized Rs. 1.37 lakh from Venkatesan of Neermullikuttai village near Vazhappadi. The money was handed over to P. T. Sundaram, Returning Officer, who later handed it over to the district treasury.
