Cong elected in Cidco, Sena in Nashik Road

The Congress came to power at the New Nashik (Cidco) prabhag samiti for the first time in 15 years, even as the Shiv Sena retained its stronghold in Nashik Road division. The MNS bagged the chairmanship in Satpur.

Nashik: The Congress came to power at the New Nashik (Cidco) prabhag samiti for the first time in 15 years, even as the Shiv Sena retained its stronghold in Nashik Road division. The MNS bagged the chairmanship in Satpur.
Tuesday's was the last prabhag samiti election of the civic body's five-year term. While the chairmen were elected unopposed in New Nashik and Nashik Road, it was the first time in 15 years that the candidates were seen contesting for the position in Satpur.
The election began at 10.30am in Satpur as Savita Kale (MNS), Nandini Jadhav (Shiv Sena) and Usha Ahire (NCP)filed their nominations for the chairman's post.
After the candidates were given 15 minutes to withdraw their nomination, Ahire stepped back. But since Jadhav took longer than 15 minutes to withdrew, the election had to be started and Kale won.
At New Nashik (Cidco), polling began at 12.30pm where Ashwini Boraste of Congress was elected unopposed to the chairman's post. Kalpana Pande (Shiv Sena), Suvarna Matale (MNS) and Kanchan Patil (MNS) were the other candidates who had filed their nominations.
In the Nashik Road prabhag samiti election held at 4pm, Suryakant Lavate (Shiv Sena) was elected unopposed. Sunil Wagh (RPI) and Vaishali Bhagwat (Congress) had also filed their nominations.
