‘People in dark over Yettinahole project’

April 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Hassan:

Residents of Kadagaravalli in Sakaleshpur taluk staged a protest in the village on Sunday alleging that the contractors of Yettinahole project were taking up the project work without acquiring the land following due process of law. The protesters said the government had kept the public in dark about the project and contractors were implementing the project without following the norms.

They said the officials of the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited have not bothered to meet the people and take them into confidence before executing the work in the area.

“The contractors have hired some mediators to take over private land in the taluk. The land owners are forced to give up their land for lesser amount. In some cases, the contractors have violated agreements to lay pipelines. Also, agriculture land has been damaged due to movement of heavy vehicles”, the protesters said.

They were angry with people’s representatives as well. The people’s representatives had not visited the villages to respond to the problems face by farmers.

They also alleged that many roads were damaged following movement of heavy vehicles. The government should take up road improvement works, they urged.

Former APMC president Jathalli Puttaswamy Gowda and residents of Aluvalli, Nudaralli, Hiridanahalli and other neighbour villages participated in the protest.
