Fun and frolics marked the Baisakhi celebrations at the historic Khalsa College as students, wearing traditional dresses, danced to the tunes of Punjab folk songs and lyrics. The Punjabi composite culture was written large as students enjoyed fun rides, traditional folk dances and stalls during a feast.

Rides on the tonga (horse-ridden cart), a traditional mode of transport in Punjab, which is vanishing from the landscape, added to the flavour. The dance competitions of bhangra, gidda and jhoomer attracted a huge applause as the teachers also joined into celebration of the festival of harvesting season in the state. Punjabi delicacies, including jalebies and pakodas, were also enjoyed by the crowd.

Khalsa College Governing Council honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina in his statement wished one and all Baisakhi greetings. The students also recited Bolian (folk singing) to welcome the festival of Baisakhi as the bright sun above enhanced the spirit of the festivity.

Another colourful campus was the INIFD in the city, where the students dressed up in their traditional finery to celebrate the festival.

Spring Dale Senior School set the tone for the festivities, which saw the students carrying the traditional tiffin of ‘chana-puri’ and ‘halwa’ that they shared with their friends. The school premises was decorated in a traditional manner. Moreover, teachers interacted with the students and shared with them the significance of the festival.
