Harrison, Leveridge guide JDF into quarters

Defending champions Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), St Ann, St Catherine CC, Kingston, and Kensington copped the final six remaining quarter-final spots in the Jamaica Cricket Association Senior Cup following the final set of matches in the preliminary round at the weekend.

The JDF, who started the weekend third in Zone A, ended up on top after defeating Hanover CA by an innings and eight runs at Up Park.

St Ann, which led the zone heading into the weekend, finished second after beating St Catherine CA on first innings at Naranda Bauxite Oval.

St Catherine CC won Zone B after getting the better of St Elizabeth at Chedwin Park with Kensington finishing second following an innings and 139 runs win over Boys' Town at Kensington.

Kingston defeated Clarendon on first innings at Sabina Park in Zone C to finish second to early qualifiers University of The West Indies.

The other early qualifiers were Zone D campaigners St Thomas and Melbourne.

At Up Park Camp, Batting first, Hanover were bowled out for 89 on the back of five for eight from fast bowler Reynard Leveridge and two-wicket hauls from Sheldon Cottrell and part-time off-spinner Joseph Palmer.

The army men then posted 186 without loss with national opener Jermaine Harrison netting 122 not out and Palmer, 55 not out.

Hanover, batting a second time, were then restricted to 89 once again with fast bowlers Leighton Leslie, four for 18, and Leveridge, two for 25, taking most wickets.

Meanwhile, at Noranda Bauxite, St Ann first scored 324 with Marlon Johnson making 109 against Nkrumah Bonner five for 66, and Coi Thompson, three for 83.

St Catherine CA, despite 77 from Bonner, were then limited to 196 with Kemar Allen, five for 85, topping the bowler.

St Ann in their second turn at bat closed on 103 for two.
