Gwyneth Paltrow on Turning 43 and Running Her GOOP Empire: 'I'm Not Going to Strive to Be Anyone Else or Please Anybody Else'

Gwyneth Paltrow is 43, and loving it.

Paltrow opened up about aging, running her GOOP empire and motherhood in the May issue of SELF magazine, saying she's found a sense of balance in her life.

"It's a fantastic age. You can still find yourself at a party at 3 a.m., but you also know enough about who you are and how that informs the choices you make." she said. "It's like, I'm good! I'm not going to strive to be anyone else or please anybody else."

While she's found a deeper sense of personal acceptance and has hit a stride in her career – she just released her fourth cookbook – Paltrow is the first to admit that she struggles to remind herself to slow down and take some time to appreciate it all.

"I have yet to meet someone who isn't burdened with hyperresponsibility," she explained. "Everyone is suffering from this sense of 'I have to do it all and I have to do it perfectly.' It's all my friends, all my colleagues: We try to do everything to such a high standard. And I'm like 'Where did we get this from? Because I'm f---ing exhausted!' "

But even with such a strong desire to keep working, the GOOP guru said her true sense of happiness comes from spending quality time with her two kids.

"If I make my kids something delicious and we sit down to eat it, and I put my phone away and I really listen, that is such money in the bank," she said.
