My dad would have been very proud, says Priyanka Chopra on winning Padma Shri

The actress is conferred with Padma Shri on Tuesday morning from honourable President Pranab Mukherjee.

From bagging her first award for her American TV show to being one of the Padma Award winners, actress Priyanka Chopra has done it all. Priyanka is conferred with Padma Shri on Tuesday morning from our honourable President Pranab Mukherjee, which is India's fourth highest civilian honour. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The awards seek to recognise work of distinction and are given for distinguished and exceptional achievements.

In a statement released by the actress, an elated Priyanka said:

"I can't explain what I'm feeling right now. It's very surreal. It's such a huge honour and I'm so happy to be a part of the ceremony today. Being at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, in the presence of the honourable President, Prime Minister and all the dignitaries, sitting amongst the other accomplished awardees and mostly having my family present there, made today complete. I missed my dad. I know he would have been very proud."

The 33-year-old actress has earlier said she was elated to be among the illustrious personalities from films, arts and culture field who have receive the national honours.

In her career spanning over a decade now, Priyanka has given some memorable performances in films like 'Fashion', 'Kaminey', '7 khoon Maaf', 'Barfi!', 'Mary Kom' and 'Bajirao Mastani'. She recently made her debut in the American TV space with thriller series 'Quantico' where she plays the role of an FBI agent, Alex Parrish.

Superstar Rajnikanth is honored by Padma Vibhushan while Sania Mirza is conferred by Padma Bhushan. Bollywood singer Udit Narayan is also honored by Padma Bhushan.
