Agriculture College celebrates PLANDOFEST’16 with flair

Annamalai University among 20 best academic institutions, says V-C

The Agriculture College in the Annamalai University organised its College Day celebrations ‘PLANDOFEST 16’ on April 7 on the college premises.

A. Angayarkanni, vice president of Agricultural Association, welcomed the gathering. S. Mani, Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University, delivered the College Day address. He highlighted the achievements of Annamalai University for being recognised as one among the 20 best academic institutions in the Scopus – Shimoga ranking.

“Our Pharmacy Department is rated number one in the nation by the Elsevier ranking. Further, Annamalai University has secured 17{+t}{+h}rank in publication of research articles which demonstrates university’s research contribution. The university has the credit of bagging the first place among all the State universities of Tamil Nadu. It has also been ranked the 17{+t}{+h}on corporate collaboration with academic institutions by Springer – Nature Journal,” he said.

He added that with reference to the mangrove research, Annamalai University ranked number one among the 10 best research institutions in the world.

Meet on modern technologies held

A two-day national conference on Sustainable Modern Advances in Research and Technology – ‘SMART- 2016’ was held by Dr. Paul’s Engineering College on March 23 and 24. The inaugural and valedictory function was graced by chief guest M. Ramadoss, former MP. S. Sureender, Managing Director, Flavors India Private Ltd, Puducherry, said that every engineer should become a smart engineer by using smart technologies and Dr. P. Dananjayan, Professor and Dean of Pondicherry Engineering College, said that increase in modern technology has had adverse impact on the environment resulting in pollution, energy crisis etc. “It is the need of the hour to make new technologies that could sustain for a long period of time without compromising quality and cost,” he said.

The conference was attended by faculty members, research scholars and postgraduate students from various State universitiesAround 400 papers were received, reviewed and 325 papers were selected for presentation.

The conference was jointly organised by the Indian Society of Technical Education, New Delhi and Deepam Publications.
