The University of Mysore on Monday conferred honorary doctorate on Infosys founder and chairman emeritus N.R. Narayana Murthy and scientist and Niti Aayog member V.K. Saraswat at its 96th annual convocation held at Crawford Hall here.
Sri Nirmalananda Swami of Sri Adichunchangiri Mutt, who was also among the recipients of the honorary doctorate, could not make it to the convocation to receive the honour. The doctorate was conferred on the seer in absentia. Governor Vajubhai Vala presented the honours to the eminent personalities in the presence of Minister for Law and Higher Education T.B. Jayachandra, Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa and registrars C. Basavaraju and Rajanna.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Murthy thanked the Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor and other leaders of the university for bestowing the honour on him.
“Receiving an honour from one’s alma mater is the dream of every student. Though I have received honorary doctorates from many universities in India and abroad, this one is special as I completed my engineering from this university,” he said.
Dr. Saraswat also thanked the university, as did Nirmalananda Swami through a message read out at the convocation.
