Concert in memory of veena maestro

Ganabharathi is set to organise a veena concert in memory of maestro S. Balachander on Friday, and the organisers plan to make an annual feature from this year.

According to a press release, the programme will mark Balachander’s death anniversary (April 13). It will commence at 6 p.m. Jayanthi Kumaresh, accompanied by Vidwan K.U. Jayachandra Rao (mrudangam) and Vidwan Guruprasanna (morsing), will present a veena recital.

Ganabharathi has described Ms. Kumaresh, who is the niece of violin legend Lalgudi Jayaraman, as one of the most accomplished veena artistes of present times. Ms.Jayanthi attributes her success to her maternal aunt and guru Padmavathy Ananthagopalan. he also trained under Balachander.

Apart from having performed at several prestigious venues and festivals in India, including the Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav, Gwalior Music Festival, Chennai Music Festival, etc., Jayanthi has performed at a number of international festivals such as the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Queensland Music Festival, Darwin Music Festival and Adelaide Music Festival.
