Srikar, Wilkins put Young Stars in a good position

Centuries from opener K. Srikar Bharat and skipper Wilkins Victor put Young Stars in a good position in the final of the TNCA first division Plate championship against India Pistons here on Monday.

Young Stars ended day one on 289 for the loss of two wickets, with Victor and Ganesh Satish at the crease.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, opener Bharat smashed his second hundred of the season as he struck a 154-run partnership with Victor for the second wicket. Bharat’s 123 came in just 166 balls including nine fours and seven sixes.

The opening batsman went after Pistons’ off-spinner M. Prabhu smashing him for five 6s including three consecutive ones over midwicket. Bharat was eventually caught at the same position off Prabhu’s bowling an hour into the second session.

Skipper Victor, who joined Bharat when the score was 35, played a sedate innings rotating the strike with just seven 4s and a six enroute to his second consecutive ton.

Victor then added another 100-run partnership with Ganesh Satish for the third wicket, with the latter batting on 50.

The scores: Young Stars 289 for two in 90 overs (K. Srikar Bharat 123, Wilkins Victor 104 batting, Ganesh Satish 50 batting) vs India Pistons.
