NEW DELHI: The Centre has set up a three-member committee, headed by former chief election commissioner B B Tandon, to check violations of Supreme Court guidelines with regard to content in government advertising.
Besides Tandon, the other members of the committee are India TV editor-in-chief Rajat Sharma and adman Piyush Pandey. The committee will also recommend corrective action to the ministry or department concerned.
The information and broadcasting ministry, in a statement, said in compliance with the SC's directions of May 13, 2015, it had constituted the committee to address issues related to content regulation in government advertising.
Tenure of the members will be initially for a period of two years which shall be extendable by one year at a time, but overall extension would not be more than two times. The committee will operate from Delhi and the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity will facilitate its day-to-day functioning, the ministry said.
The names were chosen by a panel headed by Press Council of India chairman Justice (retd) Chandramauli Kumar Prasad. The panel will address complaints from the general public of violation of SC guidelines and recommend changes to the guidelines to deal with new circumstances and situations that may arise from time to time.
