The Kollywood star is trying to make a difference in the type of films he stars in and produces.
He is quite soft-spoken off-screen and hardly gives lengthy speeches. Kollywood star Suriya is known to be humble and simple and on Monday at the audio launch of his film 24 he proved it yet again.
24 is his upcoming film directed by Vikram Kumar and the audio launch function was a gala one at Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai. When Suriya went up on stage to talk, he wanted to avoid talking about his film, but he did commend the cast and crew for their hard work. After stating that he was bowled over by Vikram Kumar's script, he said something which no hero ever says.
Suriya told his fans and audience that they must applaud his good films and if they find any film bad or not worthy, then they could reject it. He went further to state that the audience should not encourage bad films. Suriya said this will make actors and directors look for better content and scripts and a good cast and team.
This advice coming from a top star in Kollywood like him is surprising and a welcome change. No star has ever asked their fans to reject films - every star wants every single movie of theirs, whether it's good or bad, to make money at the box office. And in the case of 24, Suriya is both the star in the film and the producer as well.
Suriya's comments shows that he is looking to give his fans and the audience good films. He has been experimenting with his films over the last few years and while some have been hits and other misses, he continues to strive for good cinema.
The Kollywood star is also trying to make a difference in the type of films he produces. Suriya produced Jyothika's 36 Vayadhinile which was a big hit and also director Pandiraj's Pasanga 2. While his wife Jyothika's film was a remake of a Malayalam film, the strong content, social theme and Jyothika's superb acting made it a delight to watch on screen. Pasanga 2 also had a social theme and revolved around kids which made it stand out from other films.
With the actor taking such a stand, it sets a remarkable precedent in Tamil cinema not just for his films, but for all films.
