Court Cuts: On RamJet's right to fair h-earing

On Friday, hyper-eminent senior counsel Ram Jethmalani, during the Supreme Court hearing of the constitutionally hairy P&H water-river dispute, revealed to the bench that his right ear could not hear, while to his right assisting counsel tried in vain to correct Jethmalani on one of his facts, while to his left opposing counsel like Shyam Divan were seen showing their disagreement with the elder statesman of the legal profession.

This led to considerably laughter and Justice Shiva Kirti Singh provoked more mirth when he quipped that this might require adjustment from either side, perhaps implying that Jethmalani’s juniors and Shyam Divan should swap their seats for Jethmalani’s sake.

Jethmalani, of course, has always been one to appreciate and to make a good joke.

Court Cuts is a new experiment at Legally India to bring you snippets, titbits and other amusing stories from the courts and the personalities that inhabit them. If you witnessed anything interesting recently, please do share it with us here .
