Surat: A minor earthquake jolted areas adjoining Surat and Tapi district on Sunday but there was no report of any casualty or damage to property.
The tremor measuring 3.4 on the Richter Scale was felt at 3:04pm, according to officials of the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR).
Surat district collector Rajender Kumar said the low-intensity temblor had its epicentre in Nandvi town near Surat.
"We have received reports of mild tremor with epicentre near Nandvi town. No reports of loss of life or property have been received," he said.
The quake did cause panic among local residents, who rushed out of their homes. The tremor was also felt near Kakrapar town, which houses a nuclear power plant. This is the third earthquake in the state this year with a magnitude of more than 3 on the Richter Scale. tnn
