Ludhiana: Demanding the arrest of Vikrant Kumar's murderers, family members of the deceased said on Sunday that police is giving them verbal assurances but no real action.
Elder brother of the deceased, Bittu said, "Till now, I have not received any reply from the police regarding arrest of the accused. A case has been filed against the accused under section 302 but there has been no progress.
This cannot heal the wounds of the family. Family members say they will not cremate Vikrant's body till the accused are behind bars." He pointed out that one of the accused is involved in several criminal cases and was out on bail. Police said a case was registered against four people, Gaurav Sharma, Vipin, Gurpreet Singh and Arjun.
Vikrant is survived by his wife, 1-year-old son, 3-year-old daughter, mother, younger brother Vikas and elder brother Bittu. Sources said Vikrant's father died in a car accident.
Bittu said, "Vikrant was the one who held the family together. I demand justice for my brother. I have not received any reply from government and police officials regarding the arrest of the accused. The murderers are members of the Students' Organization Of India (SOI)."
The victim's younger brother Vikas said he feared threat to the lives of family members. "Me and my brother Bittu are school van drivers and we have to earn for the family. The police will not protect us forever. There will always be a risk to our family. So the arrest should be made as soon as possible," he said.
SHO, Dugri police station, Devinder Chaudhary said, "I visited the house of the deceased and assured them that the accused would be arrested soon. A meeting was arranged between the family of the deceased and police commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh. There are six teams, including CIA, trying to arrest the accused."
