An eight-month pregnant woman, Maha Al Tamimi, has pleaded King Salman bin Abdul Aziz to reverse a judge’s verdict in her divorce case.
Tamimi, married to a soldier stationed in South Saudi Arabia, was divorced on grounds of 'superior origin' after her uncles filed a law suit saying her father did not approve of marriage.
However, Tamimi clarifies that her father has a second wife and does not even live with him. She says they had her elder brother’s consent for marriage.
In a video film posted on social media, Tamimi says she had taken her father to court a long time ago for rejecting all her suitors and mistreating her.
According to a translation by Emirates 24/7 News, she said: “My uncles claimed in court that I married against my father’s wish…but their real reason is that they believe my husband and I do not have compatible family origins.
“I appeal for the Monarch to intervene to save me and my baby.”
Her husband, Ali al-Qarni, said, "My wife’s father rejected my marriage but her brother gave us his consent and blessing…the father does not live with my wife’s family and he has already been convicted by a court for mistreating his daughter."
