The activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Karimnagar town unit, staged a dharna opposing the proposed power tariff hike in front of the Zilla Parishad where the TSERC was conducting a public hearing of the proposed hike by NPDCL in Karimnagar town on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI town president P. Raju opposed the power tariff hike when the region was reeling under acute drought conditions. Flaying the state government for proposing to increase power tariff who consume more than 100 units per month and imposition of surcharge, he reminded that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who was then Deputy Speaker, had resigned from his post opposing the power tariff hike.

Appealing to the government to withdraw the proposed hike, he threatened to launch another Basheerbagh kind of agitation opposing the same. CPI leader K. Shoba Rani, P. Srinivas and others were also present. The NPDCL authorities visited the agitation camp and assured to take the matter to the notice of the government.
