A new port at Vodarevu in Prakasam district may materialise sooner than latter.

Acting on a representation from Chirala Press Guild secretary Kota Sai Prabakara Rao, the Union Government found that “ prima facie , Vodarevu is a good site for setting up a port.”

The views of Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari were communicated to Visakhapatnam MP K. Haribabu and the same was released to the press by the Press Guild.

The Union Minister said that the State government had been asked to provide details of land available for the port backup area and access corridor to Vodarevu to take further action in the matter.

Meanwhile, senior TDP leader Karanam Balarama Krishnamurthy said: “The Visakhapatnam Port Trust is ready to invest Rs. 3,500 crore for the development of the Vodarevu port in the wake of the cancelling of the Vadarevu and Nizampatnam Industrial Corridor (VANPIC) project.”
