RAFIABAD, Apr 9:  While congratulating Mehbooba Mufti for becoming the first woman Chief Minister of J&K State, former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today urged her to take stringent measures for curbing corruption in the State and strengthen State Accountability Commission (SAC).
Addressing workers’ convention here today Vakil said, “Menace of corruption has eroded our system and common masses had been suffering for a long time due to this menace and not getting justice due to corruption, nepotism and favouritism in administration. The Chief Minister must look into the financial mess in various departments which is hampering the development of the State,” Vakil said.
He further said that corruption undoubtedly flourishes from top level and anti-graft body like State Accountability Commission was constituted for curbing corruption and cleaning the system from unscrupulous elements and now it is virtually defunct and paralyzed as no legal requirements and necessities where provided to the constituted State Accountability Commission (SAC) which recently has been accepted in the press conference by the chairman of the Commission himself.
Vakil urged the Chief Minister to strengthen the institution immediately by providing it legal necessities and requirements          and ensure disposal of all pending cases in a time bound manner so that faith of the people can be held back in the system of governance.
The former Social Welfare Minister  further   expressed concern over the stay orders brought by some former Ministers and bureaucrats for last more than eight years. He said if the Government is serious in eradicating corruption then it should activate its lawyers and get these stays vacated.
Besides others who addressed the convention included senior  leaders Ghulam Nabi Shah, GM Dar, Pt Brij Nath Nehru, S Trilok Singh, Ghulam Hassan Lone and Abdul Rashid Lone.
