New Barapullah loop helps Noida cars beat jams

Noida: The loop connecting DND Flyway to the Barapullah elevated road to make the commute between Noida and South Delhi easier, which was opened last week, has had an immediate impact.
Traffic flow on the Mayur Vihar link of the Flyway showed an immediate jump after the new loop started functioning. The loop, which meets the Flyway at its Delhi entry point near Dharam Kanta on Ring Road, also eases the commute to South Delhi and East Delhi.
Work on the 4km long elevated road started in October 2008. The project was expected to be completed by May-June 2010 but got delayed because of protests by locals. The completion date was then extended to December 2015. The stretch is likely to be fully functional by next month.
Traffic coming from South Delhi via Barapullah disperses in two directions - a loop to the left, towards Noida and Mayur Vihar, and straight towards Ashram. Anwar Abbasi, spokesperson of NTBCL, the DND Flyway operator, said more people have started using the Flyway since the new loop opened. "It's a big relief for people commuting between South Delhi on one side and East Delhi and Noida on the other. A number of people have started using the elevated road and on to the DND Flyway. People from South Delhi going to Greater Noida via the Flyway are also using the Barapullah now," he said.
People prefer to use this route to avoid traffic jam at Ashram and Lajpat Nagar.
There is also an increase in the number of commuters on the Mayur Vihar link road. "Traffic has gone up by 2,000-3,000 users every day. Commuters from South Delhi to Noida, Mayur Vihar, Kalyanpuri, Trilokpuri, etc. are all using the elevated road," he said.
Commuters said the new exit has eased their commute. "Earlier, from Barapullah, we used to drive straight towards Sarai Kale Khan and then a U-turn on Ring Road to reach the Flyway. Since Sarai Kale Khan is always congested with commercial vehicles, we'd face a harrowing time. The new route has solved our traffic woes," said Shivam Kumar, a commuter.
