Gudi Padwa, which marks the New Year for Maharashtrians, was celebrated with pomp on Friday. While some wore traditional clothes, some even went a step further to have clothes of yesteryear Maratha warrior Bajirao Peshwa.
Dilip Kawle was one such enthusiast. "Last year, I wore something different and I have been doing that every year for the past 12 years," said Kawle.
Some others like Prabodh Prabhudate — a resident of Sion, who came in non-traditional dress — came to show his son a thing or two about the Marathi culture. "We get very little time for cultural events. Hence, I thought this will be a great place for my son to know a thing or two about our culture."
Girgaum, which witnessed several Shobha Yatras, saw a lot of people from other communities to witness the cultural festival. "I live nearby and had come to see the celebrations," said Melroy Rodrigues.
