Clares Rocket is a short price to land the €80,000 winner’s prize following his 28.00 victory in the semi-finals, but he will need to be on his toes to clear Riverside Chip in the early yards. If the June pup can do so, he should gallop on to victory, but the there isn’t much value in this price.
Witches Belle has quite a bit to find on last week’s form, but she had a tough draw on that occasion, and is better boxed in three this time. With a clear run, her finishing kick should ensure she is heavily involved.
With a record of 10 wins from 13 starts Droopys Roddick is clearly very hard to beat. He lacks a touch of early pace, but the draw is such he should be able to turn close this time. That being so, the clever tracker can prevail late to land the spoils. Witches Belle and Clares Rocket can fill the frame.
It could be a great weekend for his trainer, Pat Buckley as, tomorrow afternoon at Mullingar, his Paradise Maverik can secure back-to-back victory in the Gain Dog Food Irish Cesarewitch.
The prolific tracker, who has won 22 times in 53 outings, hasn’t always been convincing in the heats and yet he has managed to get the job done each time.
In the semi-finals, he left it late to pick up Master Moroney, and yet a repeat of that sort of effort on the clock should be good enough.
The favourite is a real class act around this track, and can use his considerable stamina to prove too good for promising bitch Droopys Tee.
The last-named lacks a touch of early pace, but is a February ’14 whelp with scope for improvement. With a clear run, she can give the selection most to think about.
