Som Saa to open first permanent restaurant next week

Successful pop-up and residency brand, Som Saa is to open its first permanent restaurant on 11 April in London's E1.

Andy Oliver, Mark Dobbie and Tom George will be launching the new Thai eatery on Commercial Street in Spitalfields.

The menu brings together seasonal British produce with Asian ingredients in regional Thai dishes. Som Saa's previous incarnations focused on dishes from the North and North-East, but in the new kitchen the team will showcase dishes from around the regions.

New dishes include: Ggaeng Daeng Moo Yaang - red curry of grilled pork, green banana and holy basil, and Pad Char Ahaan Talay - stir fried prawns, clams and squid with lime leaves, young peppercorns and wild ginger.

For the first six weeks, Som Saa will be open for dinner only, with a brunch and lunch menu to follow. Brunch dishes include: Khao Dtom - Thai rice soup with crispy pork, pork balls slow cooked egg, ginger and spring onions, and Pa Thong Ko - Thai/Chinese-style doughnuts with pandanus custard.

For beverages, a dedicated bar will offer its own menu of Thai drinking foods, such as Miang Lao - palm sugar, fried garlic, peanuts and chilli wrapped in pickled mustard greens.

The cocktails are also inspired by Thai flavours, like the Krahang Old Fashioned with sandalwood, smoked buffalo trace and mandarin peel. There are also Postcard teas such as a Northern Thai oolong flavoured with toasted sticky rice.
