Taveuni Rotary Club in partnership with Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation has seen over 2600 Fijians eyesight restored.

The foundation since 2009 has been supporting the club’s eye project which targets restoring vision through cataract operations to people who may be victims of prolonged non-communicable diseases.

Yesterday the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation executive Ambalika Devi presented $7500 cheque to the club.

Taveuni Rotary Club member Geoffery Amos said they were very thankful for the foundation’s continuous support.

“Our project focuses on people who are from remote and rural communities,” Mr Amos said.

“The sponsorship we received helps to cover expenses such as accommodation, meals and travel from home to treatment centre and back.

“This also includes eye drops, patches and one pair of eye glasses till the patients recuperate properly.

“Annually we provide service up to $1.5 million and support from the foundation takes us a long way.

Ms Devi said she was very impressed to know that patients’ full vision was restored.

“This is like fewer burdens on families and communities and this effectively contribute towards our vision of bringing about positive social change,” Ms Devi said.

“So far we have provided $167,500 to the club to assist them with their eye project.”
