To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Pune Okayama Friendship garden, a two-day event to showcase Japanese culture has been organised by the Association of Friends of Japan with the help of the Pune Municipal Corporation at the garden on Sinhagad Road on April 9 and 10.
Sameer Khale, chairperson of Association of Friends of Japan, urged the PMC to enable introduction of Japanese culture in the city. The PMC is responsible for decoration of the garden’s entrance and will provide assistance to the Association of Japan.

There would be an exhibition of photos of Japan, Japanese dolls, bonsai exhibition, origami exhibition and demo. Also, the volunteers would explain Japanese garden history and design to visitors.
The Pune Okayama Friendship Garden, which is now part of the P L Deshpande garden complex that also includes Mughal Garden, was jointly created by PMC and Association of Friends of Japan. It has become a landmark and popular tourist attraction in the city. The 10-acre garden has good landscapes and a stream that receives water directly from the canal.
