MILWAUKEE – M.A. Mortenson has its hands full in Wisconsin with sports-related developments.

Golden Valley-based Mortenson is overseeing construction of the 144-room hotel that the Kohler Co. — a manufacturer best known for its plumbing products — is developing as part of the Titletown District just west of Lambeau Field.

The Lodge Kohler will serve as one of three anchors at the 34-acre, $130 million district.

Mortenson also was recently named construction manager of the $500 million Bucks arena, which will break ground this summer in downtown Milwaukee.

Jay Hoekstra, hospitality construction portfolio manager at Kohler, Wisconsin-based Kohler Co., said in a written statement that Mortenson was selected for a number of reasons, including its experience with hotel construction and history of delivering high-quality projects.

The Titletown District is being built in the village of Ashwaubenon, whose board approved the first phase of the project in early March. Ground was broken for Lodge Kohler on Tuesday.

Herb Kohler, Kohler Co. executive chairman, said the hotel will be an experiment in hospitality. The 110,000-square-foot building will include a cafe on the first floor; a panoramic bar, restaurant and cigar terrace on the fifth floor overlooking Lambeau Field; a full-service garden spa; a pool; and a private courtyard, among other things.

Lodge Kohler will be the company’s fourth hotel.
