Consumer body seeks UPERC action

A day after TOI reported the high cost of power purchased by the UPPCL, a consumer organisation, UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhogta Parishad approached the UP electricity regulatory commission demanding action corporation officials. In a representation to UPERC chairman, Desh Deepak Verma president of the parishad, AK Verma demanded action be initiated under section 142 of the electricity act.

Lucknow: A day after TOI reported the high cost of power purchased by the UPPCL, a consumer organisation, UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhogta Parishad approached the UP electricity regulatory commission demanding action corporation officials. In a representation to UPERC chairman, Desh Deepak Verma president of the parishad, AK Verma demanded action be initiated under section 142 of the electricity act.

On Wednesday,TOI publisheda report stating that the Energy Exchange of India (IEX) has submitted a report to the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) saying UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) purchased expensive power from other sources instead of using cheaper option available with the exchange. A conservative estimate shows that the corporation spent Rs 1,200 crore extra by preferring these companies over the exchange.
