Acts from the University of the Third Age, The Golden Singers, The McLean Trio, Scott Hulbert and Alex Munro, to name just a few, were introduced by students from Macintyre High School.
Robyn Dixon from Retirement Services Management at McLean Care organised the show, and said it was funded with a community services grant.
“What they’re trying to do is get people up and active. People in their sixties, rather than old-old,” Robyn said.
“That’s what this festival has been all about: trying to get people to join clubs, volunteer, join anything that’s out there to get involved in the community.”
Robyn said the concert was also a celebration of Aboriginal elders and seniors.
“A lot of people, when they retire, sit still and they feel old,” Robyn said.
“They don’t get out and do things, and get involved with things, and that’s what we’re trying to encourage people to do with this sort of thing.” Robyn said retirement should not be perceived as the end because it was really the beginning of another life.
