Warangal: Parkal water looks like tea

The level of water in the check dam has reached its lowest point after which whatever is drawn is muddy.

WARANGAL: The Parkal panchayat body is making the people drink muddy water at a time when finding water has become an ordeal. Residents of the town complain that they are being supplied water that is so muddy that it resembles tea when poured into a glass.

The problem arises because there is no filter bed to clean the water. The meetings held by the councellors fail to tackle the water issue even as 50,000 residents in 20 wards continue to suffer.

Parkal town is supplied water from the Paidipalli checkdam. The level of water in the check dam has reached its lowest point after which whatever is drawn is muddy. This water is being supplied to people.

With the water level almost reaching the bottom, water from the Parkala Pedda Cheruvu was transferred into the check dam. Now this water is being pumped to households.Since there is no filter bed in the facility to process the water, the situation is making the people suffer.

Some people can afford to buy water cans or have bore wells nearby from where they can fetch drinking water. In many wards, the bore wells have dried up and there is no alternative. People are forced to drink the same dirty water which some of them boil while some filter in their homes before using.

“We face sometimes face the same situation in the rainy season. We are afraid our children would fall sick due to water born diseases. The water also smells bad. As we have no other alternative we are boiling the water or filtering it at our homes and drinking. A filter should be built in the town as soon as possible,” says Purushotham of Patha Market area.
