Leaders, citizens seek amenities for PCMC areas
Pimpri Chinchwad: Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge has asked the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to provide civic amenities to housing societies in Moshi Jadhavwadi and surrounding areas.
He also said police must take stern measures and create public awareness to prevent chain-snatchings, house break-ins and looting. Landge was speaking at a meeting attended by police, civic officials and nearly 1,000 residents of various housing societies.
He said many housing complexes have come up in the area, but builders have failed to provide amenities to the residents.
The builders take commercial water connections at the beginning of the construction work, but do not get residential water connections. When people move into the flats, they have to pay commercial water tax. The civic administration must ensure that builders provide roads, water, electricity and pollution-control facilities to the residents as per norms, he said.
Landge, an independent MLA, also spoke about the recent fires in Chikhli and Kudalwadi. He said licences should be made mandatory for scrap dealers. Fire-fighting equipment should be installed by all scrap dealers as fire engines cannot reach many of the godowns in these areas, he added.
Local MNS corporator Rahul Jadhav said, "Police patrolling is needed on roads. Also, PCMC must take steps to deal with the growing water hyacinth menace in Indrayani river."
Residents, too, expressed some of their concerns. Sachin Bachav from River Residency said, "The scrap merchants burn wires at night to extract copper, which causes air pollution in surrounding residential areas. Besides, we get water supply at low pressure."
Sachin Pawar, another resident, said, "There are no streetlights on the road from our housing colony to Dehu-Alandi Road, which creates problems for pedestrians and motorists." PCMC executive engineer Satish Ingale said the civic electrical department had been directed to erect streetlights along Dehu-Alandi Road. "The engineering department has also started constructing the 24m-wide development plan road."
