New Delhi: An Afghan man, Azmair, who had come to India along with his family after facing frequent threats and attacks in his hometown, Herat, was stabbed to death in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar area by two of his fellow countrymen.
The incident occurred on April 2. Azmair's younger brother, Dastgir, has alleged that the assailants are the same men who had been targeting their family in Herat.
The police have arrested one of the accused while the other is absconding.

Azmair, 24, had come to India more than three years ago and was staying in Jangpura, in southeast Delhi. According to Dastgir, the incident took place when Azmair went to visit one of his friends in Malviya Nagar.
"It was around 2am when I got a call from the police reporting the attack on my brother. We rushed to a hospital in Saket, but he had died by the time we reached. Cops told us two men had attacked him near a banquet hall in the area, after he left his friend's place," said Dastgir.

"Around five years ago, my younger brother was abducted and Azmair was shot at and stabbed. A criminal group, which had affiliations with the Taliban, was trying to extort money from my father who owned a few companies. I suspect involvement of the same group behind my brother's murder. Azmair had no enmity with anyone," Dastgir added.
Police are trying to find out if there is any link between the arrested man and the criminal group Azmair's family has named. "Mumtaz was arrested the same morning after intensive raids, while another accused, who has been identified as Hafeezullah, is absconding," said a senior police officer.
"During questioning, Mumtaz claimed that Azmair had taken some money from the two accused to arrange visas for them. But, Azmair's family members have denied this. We are checking the facts. Regular raids are being conducted to nab Hafeezullah," the officer added.
