Ramgarh: The rise in mercury has triggered water scarcity in Ramgarh district, prompting the district administration to prepare emergency water supply services for the residents. Ramgarh deputy commissioner Anjanyelu Dodde on Wednesday ordered the immediate repairing of over 800 bore-wells across the district on emergency basis.
"The ground water level scenario is grim because of the ongoing mining and industrial activities here," Dodde said.
The department has ordered 25 water tankers in Ramgarh town and the district. The district administration has also opened control rooms for managing the growing water crisis at block levels as Dulmi, Gola, Chitarpur, Mandu and Patratu witness the drying up of ponds, streams.
Realizing 25 tankers are not enough, the district administration has pproached corporate houses having their operations in the districts.
Companies like Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) for fielding tankers under their corporate social responsibility heads to tackle the impending crisis. Gram Panchayats have been directed to purchase water tankers with funds marked under the 14th finance commission.
The administration is planning to set up water purifying plants for treating surface water of rivers to solve drinking water purpose.
However, sources in the water supply department say the efforts are unlikely to pay dividends during this summer.tnn
