‘Himanshi was being harassed for Fortuner’

April 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - NEW DELHI:

BSP leader Hira Lal Kashyap on Wednesday claimed that he had contemplated seeking police action against his party colleague and his daughter Himanshi’s father-in-law Narender Kashyap a day before her death. But, he was convinced by family members against it.

Mr. Hira Lal Kashyap told journalists that he had met Himanshi at her house in a family function who accused her in-laws of torturing her. “I wanted to initiate a police action but at the advice of other family members to resolve the family matter by sitting together and not involving outsiders, I restrained myself from doing so.”

He also said that he spoke to Narender Kashyap thrice in this regard but it went in vain.

The family has alleged that the in-laws were harassing Himanshi for a Fortuner (SUV) and jewellery. Mr. Hira Lal Kashyap also said that the mother-in-law harassed her and she was beaten up several times. In the complaint submitted to the police, based on which Mr. Narender Kashyap and his family members have been booked for dowry death, Hira Lal’s brother Hari Om has said that when Himanshi got married in 2013, the family had spent a lot of money and even when the demand for Fortuner was made, his elder brother assured that he would buy one but after selling his plot.

Himanshi’s husband Sagar Kashyap is a doctor by profession and is presently doing MD in microbiology from Subharti medical college.

The family of Rajya Sabha MP, however, said that Himanshi has committed suicide.

Meanwhile outside the hospital, too, there was sloganeering by supporters of Mr. Hira Lal Kashyap.
