Guwahati: Governor of Assam and Nagaland PB Acharya on Wednesday expressed concern over the death of a Arunachali youth Zilla Takuin in Guwahati on Holi.
Acharya said the northeast, inhabited by more than 200 tribes, is considered to be one of the most culturally diverse regions of the world. "The eight sister states have to respect one another and co-exist peacefully," he said, and added that the bonding between the tribal and non-tribal population in the region is really the strength of the society and any disturbance would be suicidal.
The case has been handed over to the crime branch of the Assam Police for investigation.

The governor called Mukesh Agarwal, the commissioner of police, Guwahati, to the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday for briefing on the action being taken in response to the incident. The commissioner informed the governor that prior to the incident, a verbal altercation had taken place between two groups of youths at a hangout and the victim was with one of these groups with his friends. He also said that two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident and are presently in police remand.
