Girl commits suicide

An 18-year-old girl who consumed poison on Tuesday and was undergoing treatment at the Perambalur Government Hospital died on Wednesday.

S. Jayapriya of Karai village had written Plus Two examination recently and was awaiting results.

Police sources said the girl wanted to pursue higher education while her parents had reportedly advised her that they would admit her next year due to family’s poor economic condition.

The sources said the girl reportedly consumed poison upset over this when her parents – both farm hands – were away. The girl died in the early hours on Wednesday.
