Man stabs wife, cop with ‘blade’ in court
Nagpur: Suspecting his wife’s fidelity, Sandesh alias Golu Naik, an undertrial in a murder case, slashed her face with a pocket-sized blade and also rained a few blows on her. When head constable Devendra Nagrale rushed to Sneha’s rescue, Naik lashed and caused injuries on his right hand. The incident took place on the fifth floor corridor of the district court.
Though an offence has been registered at the Sadar police station, the roles of the escort police as well as the jail’s internal security surveillance is under scanner. Undertrials are not allowed to interact with family members but the escort police seemed to look the other way when Naik met his wife.
Sandesh told the police that he found the blade near the ground floor barrack washroom, where he was kept after being brought from the Central Jail. Police officials feel that Sandesh may have brought the blade from the jail itself.
A police source said that Sandesh was miffed after getting information that Sneha was having an illicit relationship. On Tuesday, Sneha had met Kale at the court, and he was upset, said cops. A week ago, the couple met at the jail where too Kale expressed his bitterness over Sneha’s alleged affair.
Sandesh had been booked for rape for eloping with Sneha when she was a minor. Later, he got embroiled in the murder of Rupesh Kale in January 2014.
Nine city cops are already under suspension in the Kale case and a few more heads may roll after Wednesday’s incident. Five policemen from Jaripatka police station were suspended after three suspects slipped away from custody after Kale’s murder. Later, one of the accused, Bittu Sarojkar, escaped from the custody of the escort cell in December 2014 from the court. He continues to be elusive. Another four cops were suspended then.
