Tata launched its new Tiago hatchback in India Wednesday, April 6. Priced starting at Rs. 3.2 lakh, the Tiago, a mid-level hatchback is a significant model for Tata in the domestic market. Its production is in full swing at the company's Sanand plant in Gujarat.

The Tiago is the second offering of the company, after the Nano, to be made at the Sanand plant. According to a Financial Express report, the plant which operates in two shifts is currently producing 500 unit of the Tiago per day. Tata has already started dispatching the car to its dealers across the country and is expected to start the delivery soon.

The Tiago is Tata's first offering to be based on its Impact design language, which the company says is the impression formed on prospective customers within the first 20 seconds of viewing a car. The vehicle is offered in both petrol and diesel variants. While the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol mill will churn out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the 1.0-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine will produce 69bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both engines will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Tiago claims to offer a mileage of 23.84 kmpl for petrol and 27.28 kmpl for diesel.

Available in five variants — XB, XE, XM, XT and XZ, the Tiago comes in six colour options — striker blue, berry red, sunburst orange, espresso brown, pearlescent white and platinum silver. Tata's new hatchback is open for bookings in the country with a down payment of Rs. 10,000.
