NGT petitioner seeks white paper on capital lands

There is no transparency with regard to lands earmarked under LPS, he says

There is no transparency in the dealings of the Andhra Pradesh Government with regard to the farmers’ lands earmarked under the land pooling system (LPS) for the development of the new capital, National Green Tribunal petitioner P. Srimannarayana has said.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said: “The State government, which took land from farmers under the LPS, is preparing ground to lease it out for 99 years. And the lease is offered without conducting any open auction.”

The government was saying that it had created the Capital City Management Development Company (CCMDA) and it would retain ownership over only half the company and sell shares for remaining half to private companies.

'Role of company not clear'

“The role of this company in the development is also not clear. While the Ministers are saying one thing in their statements, the officials are saying something else,” he added. The anomaly was giving sleepless nights to farmers who had already given their lands to the government. The government should come out with a white paper on the various proposals for development of the capital, he said.
