Itna takleef diya meri beti ko, won’t let Rahul get away with this, cries Pratyusha's mother

Mumbai: In hushed silence and amid strains of gurbani, a stream of friends and well-wishers trickled into Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Andheri (West) on Tuesday for a prayer meet for the girl who once had everyone transfixed as the child-woman Anandi. Unsurprising that the turbaned gatekeeper asked each visitor if they were there for “Anandi” before showing them the way.Surrounded by Pratyusha Banerjee’s industry friends like Vikas Gupta, Kamya Punjabi and Ratan Rajpoot to Gauhar Khan, Sangram Singh and Delnaaz Irani, her mother Soma Banerjee broke down. “Itna takleef diya mere beti ko (So much hurt he caused my daughter) I’m not going to let him get away,” she said, referring to Pratyusha’s boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh. “I would tell her concentrate on your work, finish your shoots on time… everything will be fine but little did I know how much she was being tortured.”
In a press conference late on Tuesday, her family said Pratyusha had found out very recently that Rahul had a nine-year-old son from a previous relationship.
Pratyusha’s parents said they had never met Rahul’s parents. “We didn’t even know where Pratyusha and Rahul lived in Goregaon. He sacked her staff who had been with her for years. Pratyusha’s dream was to have a perfect wedding, it’s just that the guy she found was wrong,” her father Shankar Banerjee said.
In her last phone call to her parents, Pratyusha asked if they had spoken to Rahul lately. Her mother said they had and intended to discuss the couple’s future. “My daughter liked when I read out her forecast; her grandfather was a renowned astrologer. I told her that the year was to be a good one for Leos (she was a Leo). But she said her life was full of difficulties. Then the doorbell rang and she hung up,” said Shankar. “We learnt much later that she was being terrorized by Rahul. He claimed his family was very powerful politically in Ranchi, though we could find no proof of this claim,” he added.
According to Pratyusha’s family, Rahul and his father were handling her finances. “What is Rahul’s source of income? Why did he keep Pratyusha’s debit card and withdraw (money using) cheques for her? Has anybody seen his divorce papers? His father has claimed that my daughter is a manglik, but she wasnt,” said Shankar.
Actor Kamya Punjabi said at least two other women had filed cases of financial fraud against Rahul and many others were coming forward. “We still don’t know if our daughter committed suicide (or if there is foul play). It’s a case of cheating and torture,” said Pratyusha’s uncle.
