No matter where one travels to for better prospects, family and the place where one grew up remain special.
Oyee is a family drama based on this premise and is written by first-timer Francis Markus.
The story is about Krishna, a young man working in Chennai and the trials in his life. On a visit to his hometown in Thirunelveli, Krishna takes up the gauntlet when he is challenged to take up silambam, a martial arts using bamboo sticks.
“It is for the sake of his family and village,” says Markus.
Geethan plays Krishna and is paired opposite newcomer Eesha.
Markus, who has produced the film under his banner, Mark Studio, says this romantic drama will reveal a new side of Telugu actor Nagineedu, until now mostly seen as an antagonist.
“Here he plays Krishna’s father. It’s a role that he has not played earlier,” adds Markus.
Veteran actor Sangili Murugan plays Krishna’s grandfather for laughs.
Ilayaraja, who has scored music for Oyee has composed a rap song, a first in his musical career.
Yuga H is the cinematographer. Oyee releases in India on April 8.
