British mixed martial artist Mike Wilkinson has revealed he has been cut from the UFC.
Wilkinson was last in action back at UFC London when he faced Makwan Amirkhani at the 02 Arena on February 27th, losing via a unanimous decision.
Prior to that, Wilkinson had recorded wins over Nikolas Backstrom and Brendan Loughnane, although he suffered a loss to Rony Jason in the Brazilian's own backyard in Fortaleza.
The decision to cut Wilkinson comes four weeks after his loss to Amirkhani and it is a somewhat surprising decision given that later this week, Wilkinson will feature in an MUTV documentary called 'Sporting Reds'.
The series documents the sporting lives of some of Manchester United's biggest supporters and for the last 18 months, a camera crew has been on hand to film Wilkinson's ups and downs within the UFC.
In the documentary, Wilkinson is seen going through some devastating lows as he recalls the recent loss of a family member before injuring himself while training for a fight at Berlin in July 2015.
Despite these devastating setbacks, the film then shows why Wilkinson is nicknamed 'The Warrior', documenting his bravery and determination through his injury rehabilitation
'The Warrior' will now be looking to ply his trade elsewhere and won't have a lack of options with Bellator, WSOF and ONE FC likely to be interested in acquiring his services.
Wilkinson is the second of two British fighters to have lost their job in the last week with the UFC after Northern Irish lightweight Norman Parke was released from the company last Friday.
