Ahmedabad: Thieves targeted the bungalow of a textile trader in Vastrapur and stole gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 12.7 lakh along with Rs 70,000 cash on Sunday. Police suspect it to be an insider's job.
Madanlal Jain, 59, lives at Milan Park Society opposite Ahmedabad Haat in Vastrapur and owns Mahamantra Fabrics in Navrangpura. Jain and his family members had gone to Shahibaug to his elder brother's residence on Sunday.
They had asked their domestic help, Suresh, hired recently, not to report to work as they were going to return late.
"When they returned on Sunday evening, they found the lock on the main door broken. They found everything rummaged through and the safe broken. The thieves had decamped with gold and silver ornaments along with cash," said a Vastrapur police official. When the family asked the watchman whether any suspicious movement was reported, he said that one Ganesh had come in the afternoon. Police suspect that it might be a fictitious name as the residents denied knowing any visitor by that name. Somebody had deactivated the society's CCTV installed near the entrance for the past three days.
"Jain also mentioned that Suresh, the new domestic help hired recently, had called up twice to inquire whether they had returned home and could he come to work despite specific instructions of not coming on Sunday. The watchman also reported that Suresh had come to the society on Sunday. We have started searching for Suresh," said the official.
