Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan’s election campaign took a tech-turn on Monday with the launch of a website to facilitate greater interactivity with the voters.

Infosys founding team member and former managing director S.D. Shibulal launched the websitewww.pinarayivijayan.inat a simple function attended largely by youth drawn from different colleges in the city.

Mr. Shibulal said technology held great interactive potential and could be used as a big tool for change in society. He was someone who had given himself up to technology and had personally witnessed information technology tools evolve from massive girth to the present smart devices that everyone carried around, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vijayan said the Left had never been averse to technology. The Technopark in the State capital was conceived when the late E.K. Nayanar was the Chief Minister, though it bloomed much later. Technology meant much in the present world and his effort would be to reach out to the people through the new website, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau member said.

Former Finance Minister and CPI(M) Central committee member T.M. Thomas Isaac chaired the meeting. Party State committee member T.N. Seema and Film Employees’ Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) general secretary B. Unnikrishnan offered the felicitation. Rajya Sabha member C.P. Narayanan, CPI(M) district secretary Anavoor Nagappan and Kadakampally Surendran and Antony Raju, Opposition LDF candidates in Kazhakkuttom and Thiruvananthapuram, among others, were present.

Once the function was over, the students crowded around Mr. Vijayan and the normally taciturn CPI(M) leader was all smiles as he obliged their request for selfies.
