Minister for Kannada and Culture, Umashree, on Monday said the remaining amount of the special grant announced by the State government to the universities when Kannada secured the status of a classical language, would be released soon.

Speaking at a programme organised at the University of Mysore here, the Minister, while responding to writer Prof. Arvind Malagatti’s request for releasing the funds as assured by the government for taking up Kannada works, said, “The outstanding amount will be released to all the universities shortly.”

The government had announced Rs. 2 crore to the State universities when Kannada got the classical language tag and accordingly released a sum of Rs. one crore.

Since it had not released the remaining amount, Mr. Malagatti reminded Ms. Umashree of the government’s assurance.
