MJK happy at being given two seats

April 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:09 am IST - CHENNAI:

The AIADMK’s decision to allot two seats to the month-old Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi, a splinter group of M.H. Jawahirullah’s Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, in the ensuing Assembly election has come as a pleasant surprise even to its own party members.

A delighted Thammemum Ansari, president, Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi, said, “This decision to give us two seats has shown how much the Chief Minister respects the Muslim community. Despite being a party that was formed very recently, we have been treated well.”

The candidates for Nagapattinam and Oddanchathiram constituencies will be named after the party’s executive committee meeting on Wednesday.

Asked how the MJK would function differently from MMK, he said that his party wouldn’t just talk about ‘minority issues’.

“People belonging to all religions are welcome to our party. We will be actively campaigning for better environment, better education in rural areas and social harmony,” he said.
